GDA Students Art Project: Flower Making, Warli Painting, and Mehendi Competition
📅 September 15, 2017 • 📍 Dahanu
Oscar Wilde opined, “A flower blossoms for its own joy.” The General Duty Assistant (GDA) students blossomed while learning Flower Making during the Art Project conducted on September 15 and 16, 2017, at Auxilium Youth Animation Centre – Dahanu. Sr. Clotilda Correia FMA served as the resource person. There were two batches of $50$ students each, who learned to make a variety of colorful flowers. Pablo Picasso affirmed, “Every child is an artiste. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” The GDA students were fortunate to practice Warli Painting on September 16, with Mr. Kumar Ajay Hadal as the resource person. Warli art is a beautiful folk art of Maharashtra, traditionally created by tribal women, which depicts social life rather than mythological characters. The students enjoyed learning and executing the paintings. Sumeetha Manikandan said, “With the first line of Mehendi, she forgot her troubles and delved into the beautiful world of checkered patterns and intricate lines.” The GDA students took part in a Mehendi competition, decorating hands with henna—an auspicious sign at social gatherings. The art of henna painting was a new and delightful experience for the tribal students. Attractive prizes were awarded for each competition. Sahayini Social Development Society generously sponsored these activities, for which gratitude was expressed to Sr. Moksha Anthonappa, the Director.
