Child Rights and Sexual Abuse Awareness Programme in Wadala

On November 27, 2017, Ms. Sangeeta Balid, a BSW Student of Nirmala Niketan, organized an Awareness Programme on behalf of Sahayini Social Development Society – Wadala, at Nadkarni Municipal School in Wadala East from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Resource Persons from Pratham NGO, Mrs. Kalpana Jhadav (Coordinator) and Mrs. Vidya Borade (Social Worker), were invited to lead the session on Child Sexual Abuse and Child Rights for $33$ boys and girls. Mrs. Vidya Borade discussed the four important Child Rights: 1) Participation right, 2) Development right, 3) Survival right, and 4) Protection right, making the children understand them in the vernacular language through discussion and interaction. Mrs. Kalpana Jhadav used various methods and examples to explain good touch and bad touch and different types of child sexual abuse. Sr. Moksha Anthonappa, the Director of Sahayini, provided additional information and had the children act out in groups what they learned about child sexual abuse. They conveyed the theme very well and expressed their gratitude for the awareness created.
