Activities Conducted by BSW (Bachelor in Social Work) Students

During the academic year 2020–2021, students from the College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai, were placed at Sahayini NGO for their fieldwork. They were assigned by Sahayini to Anmol Balgruha, Uttan, a child care institution dedicated to the care and protection of children. The organization also operates across various locations, including Pansora and Dakor in Gujarat, and Tankarpada, Dongripada, Sarawali (Dahanu), and Belgaum (Karnataka). The students involved were: Chaitanya Abraham (BSW I), Pranali George (BSW II) & Anjali Madhu (BSW III)
The induction process began with an orientation session on the agency profile conducted by the Directress. The students participated in field visits to understand ground-level operations and community engagement. They also attended a three-day training workshop on forming Neighborhood Children’s Parliaments and participated in an awareness session on cyber-crime organized by Stree Mukti Sanghatana. As part of cultural engagement, they actively celebrated various national, social, and cultural festivals with the children.
As part of their fieldwork:
Anjali Madhu (MSW II) conducted sessions for children on stress management, National Milk Day, Constitution Day, and World AIDS Day. She also organized a Zumba session and contributed to poster-making and eco-friendly crafts to promote well-being and environmental awareness.
As part of their fieldwork:
Chaitanya Abraham (BSW I) and Pranali Munis (BSW II) led sessions on health, hygiene, etiquette, values, teamwork, storytelling, and COVID-19 awareness. They developed educational modules on corporal punishment, child sexual abuse, and creative thinking, and also created worksheets and quizzes to reinforce life skills, safety, and responsible behavior among children.
During the training, children developed essential personal and community-based skills:
• Group Work & Motivation: Learned group dynamics, steps in group formation, and creative ways to stay motivated.
• Action Planning: Acquired skills in setting goals, creating action plans, and meeting deadlines.
• Relationship-Building: Improved communication, fact-finding, follow-up practices,
and community engagement.
• Core Values: Emphasized responsibility, patience, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
• Creativity & Confidence: Encouraged creative thinking and self-belief.
• Teamwork: Developed a strong sense of team spirit and collaboration for collective success.
