The Self Help Group (SHG) women of Laura Vicuna Niwas – Savedi, Ahmednagar, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 10, 2018. The day began with a procession featuring the Chief Guest, Mr. Kumar Wakle (Nagar Sevak); Guests of Honour, Mrs. Chandrakala Wagh (Sarpanch) and Mrs. Susheela Jagtap (Sarpanch); and the Speaker of the Day, Mrs. Baby Gaikwad, who were all accompanied by the SHG women. This was followed by an inter-faith prayer service where passages from the Quran, Bhagavad Gita, and the Holy Bible were read, and a Kathak dance was performed. The guests were felicitated with shawls and flowers. Five women who had bravely overcome difficulties to ensure their daughters' education and future were also honored. The guests then shared their views and extended good wishes. Mrs. Baby Gaikwad, a vegetable vendor and an esteemed speaker, inspired attendees by sharing her journey of saving $5$ rupees daily to buy books, expand her knowledge, and stay informed on social issues. Despite opposition, she successfully initiated the “Haldi Kumkum” programme for widows. Today, she is a respected social figure who delivers motivational talks and raises awareness about women's rights. The SHG women presented a cultural programme. Mr. Kumar Wakle sponsored the lunch. The event was made possible by the generous support of benefactors and well-wishers. The Sisters also participated, offering their encouragement and support.
