A Women’s Day celebration, titled "Celebrating Womanhood," was organized by the Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Laura Vicuna Niwas – Ahmednagar on March 9, 2016, at Ujjine Matta Parisar - Ahmednagar. Nearly 500 enthusiastic women traveled from across the district to celebrate love, friendship, freedom, and dignity. The Chief Guest, Honorable Mr. Uttam Jadhav, Principal of Damori College, spoke on ‘Woman – source of compassion,’ highlighting a woman’s immense capacity to build, generate life, and care. Sr. Theresa Plathara, the Animator of Laura Vicuna Niwas – Ahmednagar, lauded the women for their essential roles in the family and society, citing examples of historical and contemporary women. Her speech, delivered in the local ‘matru-basha’ (mother tongue), was acknowledged with a thunderous applause. Sr. Mangal Kolge encouraged them to live happily, courageously, and daringly for the welfare of themselves, their families, and society. Mrs. Susheela, the Sarpanch of Nau Nagapur, and Mr. Sayeed Sheikh, the Sarpanch of Pimpalgaon Ujjine, enlightened the women on the need to make their families centers of loving relationships. The women heartily enjoyed creative games, dancing, Ukhana (a traditional game), and spot prizes. Each woman received a small gift on this special day. Sincere thanks were extended to the Sarpanch of Nau Nagapur and Pimplegaon Ujjine for providing refreshments and food. The program was a grand success, owned by the people through their participation and financial contributions. Gratitude was expressed to God and Mother Mary for their support.
