Effective teaching seminar for social workers and teachers

A seminar on Effective Teaching was organized for a group of 19 social workers and non-formal teachers at MYC-Wadala on October 8–9, 2016. Sr. Melissa D’Souza of AMAR Centre - Wadala addressed Literacy and Media, emphasizing how to teach children the importance of media, its use for knowledge enhancement, and discussing its potential uses and abuses. Sr. Moksha Anthonappa of Anmol Shelter Home - Koparkhairane provided guidance on the Child Protection Policy, stressing the need for adults and teachers to be role models, create a friendly atmosphere, allow children to express their views on societal challenges, and collaborate with similar institutions to ensure justice for children in need. Mrs. Vibahari Kavle of Tata Institute of Social Studies provided insights into Child Psychology and Counselling, sharing various real-life examples and highlighting the need to prioritize children's interests. Fr. Gregory D’Almeida of Shelter Don Bosco – Wadala spoke about the importance of education, using video clips to illustrate situational understanding and showing how life experiences enhance teaching effectiveness. On the second day, Sr. Magdeline Sequeira, Directress of Sahayini Social Development Centre, discussed various tactics for making classes more effective and interesting. Mrs. Levinisa D’Souza, a multi-talented personality, addressed behavioral problems in children and strategies for managing them. The seminar concluded with an enriching panel discussion where invited teachers shared their experiences. All participants gained many new insights.
