Training on counselling skills and trauma counselling in Chennai

Sr. Nayanaben Vankar, Sr. Vandana Malya, Sr. Smitha Monis, and Mr. Pravin Gonsalves were the representatives from our Province who attended the Training on Counselling Skills and Trauma Counselling, organized by the National Development Forum (NDF) from October 7–11, 2016, alongside 20 participants from other provinces. The training was held in Mannivakkam – Chennai Province. Following the lighting of the lamp, Isabella Mary Alphonse, the Coordinator of NDF, delivered the welcome address. Sr. Magnificat Soosai, Provincial of Chennai Province, delivered an inspiring message, noting that the participants' dynamic and joyful presence reflected a culture dedicated to the welfare of children and the entrusted laity. She referenced Don Bosco's educational method, where every educator acts as a counselor. The resource persons included Sr. Vimala Sabastian (Director of NEP, Chennai) and Dr. Sr. Elizabeth Sabastian (Psychotherapist and trained Counselor from Auxilium College - Katpadi). Dr. Christina Augustine, an expert in counselling techniques, presented a session on 'Therapeutic Skills of Trauma Counselling.' On October 9, an exposure visit was organized to the Madras Christian Council of Social Service, followed by a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of St. Thomas and Marina Beach. It was an enriching experience for all attendees.
