Life skills and child protection awareness program in Ahmednagar

📅 October 11, 2016 • 📍 Ahmednagar

On October 11–12, 2016, approximately 90 children from the villages of Jehur, Don Bosco Colony, and Asha Kiran attended a Child Protection awareness program. The event was hosted at Asha Kiran, a center run by a religious group of sisters who care for HIV-affected children. The program began after a prayer and a brief introduction to the day's agenda. Mrs. Ratnamala Sansare, a well-known teacher, served as the resource person, providing valuable and comprehensive input on child safety. The children were divided into six groups and tasked with drawing safe and unsafe places and people they encounter daily. They then explained their charts, identifying protective figures and those with whom they feel unsafe. The entire program was well-planned and executed by the social workers and Sr. Collette Gonsalves of Laura Vicuna Niwas - Ahmednagar. Sr. Gonsalves showed video clips that helped the children understand self-help strategies. The children were engaged and took an active part in the program, demonstrating a good level of prior awareness of such issues. Games were conducted, with prizes awarded, and the children were treated to snacks and lunch. The day’s program was highly enriching. The adults present expressed deep gratitude for providing their children with such important and informative education.
