Auxilium Girls Community College, Oros began in the year 2012, as there was and is a great demand for nurses in hospitals and in clinics of the neighbouring towns and cities. This course is a Hospital Assistant Nursing Course of one and half year with eight months theory and seven months practicals. They are affiliated to Nari Institute of Paramedical Science- Kolhapur. After the theory part they are sent for their internship to Goa, Poona, Sindhudurg and Kankavli. There is a great demand for the nursing students of this centre as they are trained in spoken English and writing. The girls though they are from the remotest villages of Sindhudurg, Kankavli, Kudal, Sawantwadi and Dodamarg they are open and receptive to all that is inculcated in them. They value the books of Quest Alliance and the class of Spoken English and writing. The majority of the students are employed by the same hospitals of their internship, as the doctors are well pleased with their hard work and performance.
The students come on their own seeking for admissions from Poona, Belgaum, Sawantvadi, Vengurla, Dodamarg, Kankavli, Kudal, Kassal, and Oros. A majority of them come from the remotest villages of Sindhudurg. The economical back ground is only farming. They earn their meager salary or income either working on daily wages or cultivating some crops as their livelihood. The main income is what they get from the fields twice a year.
Five sisters of the community are involved in teaching the students of the nursing course. The subjects taken by the sisters are Terminology, First- Aid, Spoken English, Nursing Arts and the Administrative part is also taken care of by the sister in –Charge. Sr. Priscilla Travasso is the Principal of the Community College. There is a well trained and experienced teacher who teaches them the main subjects of Nursing and assists them in their practicals and in preparing their projects as well as their short weekly assistance and practical experience at the Civil Hospital at Oros. These students get an experience of serving and caring in all the departments of the Civil hospital, so as to be well prepared for their internship. At present we have a group of 50 young girls, very enthusiastic and committed in this art of nursing. 41 students are staying in the hostel and 9 students come as day scholars. The timings are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Community College also trains them to conduct short moments of prayer and singing, for public speaking and other skills, due importance is given to Personality Development and hygiene so that they can have a stand in society and be committed in their nursing career, making a difference in their life and in the lives of the others. Their sole aim is to work hard and help their family financially and to serve humanity.
